About P3

The PNAA Patnubay Sa Pagtatagumpay (Guidance for Success) Formal Mentoring Program or P3—launched its Cohort 1 in February 2023 exclusively for Filipino-American nurses. Who best to mentor future leaders in nursing practice, education, administration, and policy making than Filipino nurses who journeyed through similar obstacles, discrimination, racism, and other difficulties to reach and rise to their full potential? While there has been ongoing informal mentoring among leaders and members, this one-year program is PNAA’s first formal mentoring initiative.

P3 was based on the 2020 iLDP project management plan by Priscilla Sagar. The P3 Steering Committee is implementing P3 in the spirit of bayanihan--- a Filipino word meaning a voluntary, collective effort  expecting no rewards----to achieve an overarching goal. The mentors offer their expertise in the spirit of bayanihan to guide and move their mentees' career forward. The mentees are here to become future mentors, truly in the bayanihan spirit.

    Goals

Patnubay sa Pagtatagumpay (Guidance for Success) Mentoring Program or P3 is a free program exclusively for Filipino American (FA) nurses who are PNAA members. P3 goals:

    1. To establish a formal mentor-mentee partnership built on the mission, vision, and goals of PNAA.
    2. To develop a sustainable Formal Nurse Mentoring Program.
    3. Increase mentor and mentee satisfaction as measured by the P3 Tool from baseline, midpoint, and end of program.

    Mentor Eligibility Criteria

FA mentors ---having undergone similar experiences and challenges--- are at vantage points to mentor FA mentees. P3 is mentee focused. Mentees develop SMART goals with their mentors and pursue those goals during the year-long program. P3 graduates rave about the program. P3 is based on Dr. Priscilla Sagar’s 2020 iLDP project management plan (PMP). Dr. Gloria Beriones, 2022-2024 PNAA President, created a Steering Committee (SC) to plan, implement, and evaluate P3.

The first cohort started from February 20, 2023 to February 19, 2024 with 26 mentees and 29 mentors. Cohort 2 started on September 25, 2024 and will be completed on September 24, 2025 with 23 mentees and 25 mentors. The P3 SC plans to implement cohort 3 in October 2025.
